We are fortunate to have a cardiologist available to consult with our staff veterinarians as well as provide support to our referring veterinarians and their clients and patients. Dr. Rausch is an adjunct member of the CRVS staff and is available for inpatient and urgent cardiology consults. Additionally, he typically sees scheduled appointments at CRVS one to two days a week. Appointments are scheduled through his office. Dr. Rausch begins each cardiac evaluation with a careful review of the clinical history of his patient and an interview with the patient’s family. Next, each patient receives a careful cardiac auscultation and physical exam. Based on these findings a diagnostic plan is made. Exam often includes chocardiography which is an examination of the heart using ultrasound and Doppler. This exam is neither invasive nor traumatic. The patient simply lies on their side and the images are attained via a small device placed against the chest. Other common diagnostic tests used in cardiology include ECG, blood pressure, radiographs (X-rays) and Holter monitoring. These tests are also non-invasive and the tests used in a particular patient depend upon the details of the case and the information that is needed to diagnose and treat his patients. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Rausch, please call 503 869-1136.
